About Us
Celebrate icons of illustration and animation
Located in the heart of Brockville, Ontario, Animélange is your passport to the best of Japanese pop culture and classic European storytelling. Our name is a blend of "anime" and "mélange" (the French word for mix). It perfectly captures our goal: bringing together modern Japanese pop culture hits and legendary Canadian and European comics under one roof.
We believe that great art and epic stories connect us across generations and cultures. Growing up in Canada in the '90s meant experiencing a uniquely diverse pop culture landscape. Because of our French and English roots, Canada helped introduce groundbreaking Japanese anime (the iconic Ocean dub of Dragon Ball Z out of Vancouver) and legendary European graphic novels (the beloved Tintin animated series was a Canada-France co-production) to North America. However, as massive corporate superhero franchises have increasingly dominated pop culture over the last decade, it has become harder to find the diverse, international stories that made Canada so distinctly different.
Animélange was born out of a desire to create a vibrant, welcoming hub for Japanese pop culture fans and European comic enthusiasts right here in Eastern Ontario, seperate from American comics. We wanted to build a cultural touchstone right in the downtown core where people could connect and discover new hobbies, artists, and characters.
By selling not only merchandise, but also manga and art books, we hope you can discover the links between legendary French artists like Moebius and foundational manga creators like Hayao Miyazaki and Katsuhiro Otomo. We also want to provide a space where parents can share the classic anime and bande dessinée they grew up with alongside their children's favorite modern anime.
Come visit us in downtown Brockville and find your next favourite, or reconnect with an old one!
